Gum Disease Treatment in Danbury, CT

Gum disease is an infection of the gums and bone that hold your teeth. Caught early, it can often be reversed. Later stages need a deep cleaning, called scaling and root planing, and regular maintenance visits to keep it under control.

What your gums are telling you

Healthy gums are pink and fit snugly around each tooth. With gum disease they turn red and puffy, bleed easily and pull away, leaving pockets where bacteria collect.

Could you have gum disease?

Get checked if you notice…

✓  Gums that bleed when you brush or floss

✓  Red, swollen or tender gums

✓  Bad breath that won't go away

✓  Teeth that look longer or feel loose

Something else may be going on if…

–  One tooth hurts. It could be a cavity or infection.

–  Gums recede from brushing too hard. We'll show you a gentler way.

–  A mouth sore hasn't healed after a week or more. Get it checked.

–  Swelling makes it hard to breathe. Go to the ER.

Regular vs. deep cleaning

A regular cleaning cares for healthy gums. A deep cleaning treats gum disease below the gumline.

Good to know

Can gum disease be cured?

Early gum disease (gingivitis) can often be reversed. Later stages can be controlled with treatment and regular care.

Is a deep cleaning uncomfortable?

A local numbing shot may be used, and laughing gas is available. Your gums may be sore for a day or two.

Why do I need maintenance visits?

Gum disease can come back. Visits every few months help us catch it early.

Paying for gum care

Many insurance plans help cover deep cleanings. Members save 10%, and HFD, Cherry or CareCredit can spread the cost.

Gum disease questions

What causes gum disease?

Plaque and tartar buildup along the gumline. Smoking, diabetes and some medications raise the risk.

Why do my gums bleed when I floss?

Bleeding is often an early sign of gum inflammation. Keep flossing gently and book a checkup.

What is scaling and root planing?

A deep cleaning that removes tartar below the gumline and smooths the roots so your gums can heal.

Do you do gum grafts?

Yes. For some receding gums, a gum graft can cover exposed roots. We'll let you know if it's an option for you.

Can gum disease affect my overall health?

Some studies link gum disease with conditions like diabetes and heart disease.
